Tennessee requires more juvenile court data

Beginning January 1, 2027, Tennessee juvenile court reporting must include more data on dependency and neglect cases. Each new petition counts as a new case, and reports must cover every child named. Required details include the filing date, referring agency or person filing, and claims under state law. Reports must include each child’s name, birth date, race, sex, ethnicity, and Social Security number. Each child needs a unique ID, which can match their ID in a delinquent or unruly case. The case or docket number must add a child-specific suffix, such as -01 or -02. Reports must track out-of-home placement types and dates, trial home placement dates, and court decisions finding dependency or neglect, dismissing cases, or transferring them. They must also record case closure dates and the start and end dates of extended foster care. For children in Department of Children’s Services custody, reports must state the permanency goal achieved or why it was not achieved.
