More training pathways for early educators

Beginning July 1, 2026, Tennessee's State Board of Education provides a pathway for qualifying child care sites to host educator training. The teacher preparation program must offer a birth-to-kindergarten endorsement on a student's first teaching license. It must also run a registered apprenticeship approved by the Tennessee Department of Education. Sites must serve children from birth until kindergarten enrollment and meet State Board training standards. They must be licensed by Human Services or certified, approved, or otherwise authorized by the Department of Education. The law also creates a task force to review scholarships, grants, apprenticeships, and other early educator career resources. Its review covers preschool and child care workers, plus workers in licensed or license-exempt afterschool programs serving children through age 12. The task force must hold at least three virtual meetings, seek public input, and recommend ways to address resource gaps. It must report to the governor and designated legislative committees by December 31, 2026, then ends.
