Tennessee teacher trainees who finish all program coursework except clinical practice can qualify for a temporary teaching permit. They can qualify before starting or finishing clinical practice. Prior clinical-practice time and time teaching under the permit count together toward their program's required practice time. The total must meet or exceed that requirement, and practice must follow state law and State Board of Education rules. The law took effect upon becoming law and does not guarantee a permit or teaching job.
