Abortion drug providers face civil penalties

The law applies to actions occurring on or after July 1, 2026. Tennessee’s attorney general can sue to enforce the state’s abortion-drug rules. Providers can face a $10,000 civil penalty for each knowing violation of Tennessee Code § 63-6-1103(b). The penalty can be $1 million if a court finds the violation caused serious bodily injury or death. Each person given an abortion-inducing drug in violation counts separately and carries a separate penalty.
