More Tennessee children qualify for pre-kindergarten
Beginning July 1, 2026, the law adds two ways to qualify for Tennessee’s pre-kindergarten program. Children age 3 on or before August 15 qualify if a parent works for the local education agency. Children age 5 on or before August 15 qualify if evaluated and found eligible for an individualized education program (IEP). These 5-year-olds must not have previously enrolled in a pre-kindergarten program covered by this law.
