Expanded drinking areas for approved event patrons

The law lets patrons drink alcohol and beer across approved event grounds, including outside a business’s regular licensed area. Participating businesses must be licensed and located within or next to event sites licensed under subdivisions (18) or (37). The county must have metropolitan government and more than 500,000 residents in the 2020 or a later federal census. A temporary special event zone ordinance and Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission approval are required; permission lasts only during the approved event. Drinks consumed under these rules must use event-designed cups labeled to identify the business that sold the drink. Only the organization named in the ordinance and county permit application can design and sell these cups to participating businesses. The law took effect upon becoming law.
