More driver education for Tennessee public-school students
Beginning July 1, 2026, Tennessee's Department of Education must promote and expand driver education and training in public schools. It must work with the Department of Safety on guidelines for school districts and public charter schools offering these courses. Guidelines must cover safe driving, sharing the road, and the dangers of driving under the influence and distracted driving. They must also include using the state driver license manual for instruction. The law provides no specific funding and does not guarantee a course at every school.
