More driver education in Tennessee schools

Beginning July 1, 2026, Tennessee expands driver education in public and charter schools. The Department of Education promotes and grows these courses statewide to improve road safety. The Department of Education and the Department of Safety set guidelines for any school that offers driver education. Classes must use the state driver license manual, teach safe road sharing, and cover drunk and distracted driving risks. If your child takes driver education at school, the class follows these state guidelines.
