New spending checks for Great Salt Lake

The Great Salt Lake Trust Council must review grant spending above a threshold it sets. It can approve that spending only if it serves the watershed program’s purposes. Beginning July 1, 2025, the commissioner cannot buy or lease water or water rights before council review and recommendations. The council can recommend approval only if the spending fits the lake’s strategic plan and Water Trust activities. Utah’s Division of Forestry, Fire, and State Lands and the grantee must update their watershed grant agreement by July 1, 2025, to meet the new requirements.
