Personalized for You
Personalize government policy and PRIA will tell you what this bill means for your household, plus every other piece of legislation we track. PRIA reads each provision against your financial profile to show you exactly what matters to your wallet.
4 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 2 costs, 1 mixed.
A person cannot be forced to testify against their spouse in a criminal case. The law states this protection in gender-neutral terms, replacing the former husband-and-wife wording.
Utah's governor may surrender someone charged under Section 77-30-23 when another state's executive authority demands their return. This applies even when the person left that state involuntarily; it does not decide guilt. Out-of-state officers may use Utah county or city jails while passing through for an immediate return after extradition proceedings or a waiver elsewhere. Officers must show satisfactory written proof of the demanding state's formal request and pay confinement costs. The prisoner cannot demand a new formal request in Utah.
Owners of unpatented lode or placer mining claims, mill site claims, and tunnel site claims must record a sworn statement. Owners or their representatives must file with the county recorder where the claim is located. The deadline is 30 days after the annual period specified in 30 U.S.C. Sec. 28 ends. The statement must say whether required assessment work was done. When that work was not required, it must state the owner's intent to keep the claim and whether any required maintenance fee was paid on time.
The law caps an owner's liability for work, materials, or equipment supplied to a production unit. The cap is the amount the owner agreed to pay for the contractor's or subcontractor's share. Sections 38-10-102 and 38-10-114 still limit how this cap applies. This limits owners' financial exposure but can also limit what contractors and subcontractors recover.
