New franchise disclosures for Vermont businesses

Beginning January 1, 2027, franchisors and franchisees doing business in Vermont must identify their status in Secretary of State filings. Franchisees must also provide their franchisor’s name. This covers initial registrations, amendments, periodic reports, and any other filings the Secretary requires. These disclosures are added to existing filing requirements. The law uses the Federal Trade Commission’s definitions of franchisor and franchisee.
