Washington corrections managers gain bargaining dispute arbitration

Beginning July 27, 2025, eligible Washington Department of Corrections management service employees gain access to arbitration for stalled union contract talks. Employees must be covered by state civil service law and belong to a represented bargaining unit. Confidential employees and internal auditors remain excluded. Arbitration can settle legally negotiable pay, benefits, hours, and other work terms, but pay and benefit awards require legislative funding. During arbitration, neither side can change existing pay, hours, or working conditions without the other's consent.
