Separate bargaining rules for some corrections workers

Beginning July 27, 2025, Washington changes bargaining rules for Department of Corrections workers with interest arbitration rights. Their unions no longer have to join coalitions with other unions to bargain. Instead, each covered union must negotiate one master agreement with the governor or the governor’s designee. Unions representing the department’s marine employees remain subject to coalition rules. The law does not set any wage or benefit increase.
