Limited abuse-reporting exemption for college legal staff

Beginning July 27, 2025, Washington gives attorneys employed by public or private colleges a limited child abuse reporting exemption. It covers information tied to representing a client. It also covers administrative, academic, athletic, and student employees those attorneys supervise or direct. Professional confidentiality rules still apply, including permission to disclose information to prevent reasonably certain death or substantial bodily harm. The law does not change household benefits or costs.
