Repeat violators: suspensions and course option

Beginning April 1, 2026, if your record shows 3 moving violations in 1 year or 4 in 2 years, your license is suspended for 60 days. When the suspension ends, you are on probation for 1 year. You can end the 60‑day suspension early by finishing a department‑recommended safe driving course, meeting RCW 46.20.311 requirements, and paying any required licensing fees; probation starts the day the suspension ends. You can use this early‑end option only once every 5 years. During the probation year, any new moving‑violation conviction adds a consecutive 30‑day suspension, and you cannot use the course option for that violation. The Department must warn you after 2 violations in 1 year or 3 in 2 years that the next will trigger a 60‑day suspension, and multiple tickets from one stop count as a single occasion toward these thresholds.

Reissue fees to get license back

Beginning April 1, 2026, you must pay a reissue fee before getting a new, duplicate, or renewal license after most suspensions or revocations. The standard fee is $75, or $170 if the action was for certain DUI‑related offenses or an administrative action under RCW 46.20.308. There is no reissue fee when the suspension was for accumulating moving violations under RCW 46.20.2892.
