Local 911 services get tax funding

The law took effect July 27, 2025, with quarterly funding transfers beginning in 2026. It applies to Washington counties east of the Cascade crest with populations between 530,000 and 1.5 million. These counties must receive county 911 excise tax revenue and run a regional 911 system. That system receives incoming 911 calls and serves multiple local governments' police and fire agencies. Qualifying counties must share their 911 tax revenue with local governments that run municipal 911 call centers or handle transferred calls for dispatch. The share matches the percentage used for the tax under RCW 82.14.420(7) and (8). No dollar amount is specified.
