Beginning July 27, 2025, Washington licensed and credentialed counselors may share health information when state health privacy law allows it. This can help coordinate care, but also expands when patient information can be shared. Licensed counselors may also disclose information to anyone they reasonably believe can help prevent or reduce imminent danger to anyone’s health or safety. This safety exception does not require them to disclose information. Credentialed counselors also gain a confidentiality exception for disclosures required by Washington’s child-abuse reporting law.
