More parking access for disabled veterans

Beginning October 1, 2025, Washington expands disability parking access for veterans with a qualifying discharge who use a service animal. They must have a service-connected disability rating of at least 70% from the U.S. armed forces or Veterans Affairs. Eligible veterans get free parking identification cards and placards without approval from a health-care professional. Permanent parking privileges also include license plate or parking-tab options. Washington's Department of Licensing must set rules for documents veterans need to prove eligibility. Veterans must renew at least every five years and show proof they still qualify. These provisions expire October 1, 2035. However, privileges issued or renewed from October 1, 2030, through October 1, 2035, remain valid for the full five years.
