Longer sentences allowed when rape causes pregnancy

Beginning July 27, 2025, Washington courts can impose sentences above the usual range when an offense causes a rape victim's pregnancy. This fact must be established under the state's sentencing procedures in RCW 9.94A.537, which govern jury findings. A longer sentence is allowed, not required. The law does not create household payments or benefits.
