Higher license fees for Washington brokers

Beginning July 27, 2025, Washington raises the real estate broker and managing broker research fee from $10 to $20. Brokers pay $10 more for each original license and each renewal, including inactive-license renewals. The renewal fee applies to licenses with expiration dates after October 1, 1999. All receipts go into a dedicated state real estate research account. Spending requires legislative approval and must serve the research center’s authorized purposes. The center studies affordable housing, real estate, urban and rural economies, and economically isolated communities. It shares findings, provides public consumer information, supports state real estate regulators, and supports economic growth and broker continuing education. It also recommends changes to state real estate laws and develops a vacancy rate standard for low-income housing. The director must establish an agreement with a college or university to establish the center. The fee, account, and research center provisions expire September 30, 2035.
