New state fire service policy board

The law creates the Washington State Fire Service Policy Board. It advises the state director of fire protection and the state fire marshal’s office on budgets, training, and resources. Seats are held by leaders or designees from firefighter, chiefs, commissioners, and fire marshal groups. The director of fire protection is a nonvoting ex officio member. Members pick an administrative chair and meet at least every three months, with extra meetings when needed.

Board volunteers: no pay, travel covered, immunity

The board can set up short-term advisory committees and seek input from regulated industries and agencies. People on those advisory committees do not get paid or reimbursed for that work. Board members serve without pay, but travel costs can be reimbursed under RCW 43.03.050 and 43.03.060. Board members and people acting for them are immune from civil lawsuits for official acts done in their duties.
