The law takes effect July 27, 2025, but repayment protection starts October 1, 2028. It covers Washington Aged, Blind, or Disabled assistance that overlaps with Supplemental Security Income (SSI) for the same period. Washington can still recover duplicate state assistance paid before October 1, 2028. For assistance paid on or after that date, Washington cannot treat the overlapping SSI as a debt or recover it.
