Lower aid counts for some schools

Beginning January 1, 2026, Washington reduces the enrollment counted for local school aid in districts with high alternative-learning enrollment. The rule applies when alternative-learning enrollment exceeds 33% of average annual full-time-equivalent enrollment. The state subtracts the enrollment above that threshold from the count used to calculate aid. This can lower state aid for affected districts and leave less money for local K-12 services. The law gives no dollar amount for the reduction.
