Expanded hazard notices for building employers

Beginning June 11, 2026, Washington’s Department of Labor and Industries has broader duties to notify employers about building-construction hazards. The rule applies when an on-site inspection immediately identifies a hazard that could injure a worker. The department must make a good-faith effort to notify the employer or worksite owner within 10 working days. Coverage includes all building construction (NAICS 236), not just home building, and removes the former June 30, 2026 sunset. The notice rule does not change other legal rights, duties, or enforcement powers.
