More supervision options for imaging technologists

Beginning June 11, 2026, Washington allows licensed practitioners to supervise diagnostic, therapeutic, and MRI technologists within their authorized scope of practice. Radiology procedures that deliver substances outside the digestive tract require direct physician supervision, except for intravenous contrast. For intravenous contrast, a physician can supervise remotely using live, interactive video and audio; audio alone is not allowed. Direct supervision can also come from a licensed physician, advanced practice registered nurse, or physician assistant. Before contrast is given, trained and qualified clinical staff must be on-site to handle adverse events and provide needed care. The law does not change healthcare prices, insurance coverage, or household payments.
