Registry and help for heritage apple orchards

Washington State University runs a Heritage Orchard Program. It keeps a public registry of heritage orchards and their locations. It also keeps a list of rare and lost apple varieties. An orchard qualifies if it has at least five apple trees older than 74 years, or at least one rare or lost variety. WSU adopts rules to carry out the program.

Program void unless funded by June 30, 2026

The act takes effect June 11, 2026. The program only continues if the legislature provides specific funding in the omnibus budget by June 30, 2026. If that funding is not provided by that date, this law is null and void.
