Beginning July 27, 2025, Washington radio and TV broadcasting businesses pay a 0.484% business tax on taxable gross income. Qualifying stations must have a Federal Communications Commission license and call sign. Broadcasting includes audio, video, and written information delivered by wire, satellite, or other means. Stations can exclude eligible network, national, and regional advertising income using either a state standard deduction or station-level itemization. The standard deduction uses national averages from the U.S. Census Bureau’s economic census. It is updated September 30, 2025, and every five years afterward. Itemization excludes advertising income based on the ratio of out-of-state audience to total audience, including delivery by other means. Audience boundaries use these signal strengths: AM, 0.5 millivolts per meter; FM, 1 millivolt per meter or 60 dBu; TV channels 2–6, 28 dBu; channels 7–13, 36 dBu; and channels 14–69, 41 dBu.
