The Washington Tourism Marketing Authority can award multiyear statewide marketing contracts to nonprofits formed after June 7, 2018. Eligible nonprofits must operate statewide and have the sole purpose of marketing Washington to tourists. The law removes the authority’s option to set alternate contractor criteria when no qualifying nonprofit exists or the initial contractor closes. Authority board members cannot also serve on boards of organizations eligible for these contracts. These changes do not directly change household taxes or benefits.
