Beginning July 27, 2025, Washington’s Public Works Board must consider affordable housing when ranking public works loan and grant applications. This applies in counties where the state housing report identifies a gap between existing homes and housing needs. Projects must encourage building in already-developed areas, called infill, or otherwise increase affordable housing to receive this consideration. The law does not guarantee funding or set a required amount of affordable housing.
