Beginning July 27, 2025, Washington officials calculate child care occupancy loads using only the areas where child care is provided. This applies to centers with dedicated space in existing buildings that also have other uses, such as churches. The rule covers building-code enforcement and child care fire-safety licensing. Existing safety standards, inspections, and compliance certificates remain required.
