Beginning June 11, 2026, the state transportation department must proactively tell utility owners about planned state highway fish barrier removal projects. When feasible, it gives at least one year of advance notice before work that affects utilities. The department must adopt policies to get as much federal funding as allowed for these projects, including utility relocation costs when federal rules permit. If federal funds can pay for relocation, the law encourages depositing any awards into the multimodal transportation account. It also encourages a report to the Legislature and the Office of Financial Management with ideas to make it easier to get federal grants or reimbursements for relocation, within federal program rules.
