Financial aid steps in every plan

Every High School and Beyond Plan includes a financial aid section. It shows if the student is in College Bound and whether state or federal aid forms are done. It records that the student got written info on aid programs, required documents, advising options, and a sample award letter with a calculator link. Beginning with the 2027–28 school year, staff review any reported application completion with the student to confirm eligibility and completion.

Earlier planning and on-track supports

Students start a plan by grade 8 and update it every year with staff help. In grade 7, they take a career interest survey; in grade 10, they review results and course options. If a student has not scored level 3 or 4 on the middle school math test by grade 9, the plan requires math in grades 9 and 10; CTE math can count. Districts must offer interventions and needed courses to students who are behind and notify parents at least once a year until the student is on track. Plans are provided in a language families understand, and by the end of grade 12 each student has a current resume or activity log.

Statewide high school planning platform

The law creates a single online High School and Beyond platform for all districts. OSPI lists vendors by January 1, 2024, selects one by June 1, 2024 if funded, and publishes a rollout plan by October 1, 2024. After the platform is finished, districts have two years to give students access and OSPI provides training. The platform pulls in courses and grades, supports many languages, protects privacy, includes IEP transition plans, and shows financial aid status with College Bound reminders. It offers career tools, student portfolios, and secure spaces for staff and families, shaped with input from educators, families, students, colleges, and partners.
