Plan to save Lakeland Village records

The state archives division must create a plan to preserve Lakeland Village’s historic records and artifacts. It must work with the University of Washington, DSHS, and the Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation. The plan lists all at‑risk items and sets steps to store, move, repair, catalogue, digitize, and microfilm them. It must include a timeline and budget and be reported to lawmakers by September 1, 2025. The division and DSHS must keep these records through 2030, and UW overhead on this project is capped at 15 percent.

When old state records become public

When records move to the state archives, any confidential or exempt status stays in place. Records can open sooner if the archivist and the original agency agree under state rules. After 75 years from creation, restricted records in the archives are open to inspection and copying. Privacy laws, including HIPAA and state health‑privacy laws, still apply no matter how old the record is.
