Employers get relief from reporting error penalties

Beginning June 11, 2026, Washington employers gain protections against penalties for errors in unemployment tax and wage reports. The employment security commissioner may waive penalties for minor or insignificant errors, but waivers are not guaranteed. This includes software errors that accidentally leave out a worker’s standard occupational classification or job title. For those missing details, employers face the incomplete-report penalty only when they knowingly leave the information out.
