Skagit island hospital qualifies for Medicaid payments

Beginning June 11, 2026, the law expands access to Medicaid critical access hospital payments. A hospital must be on an island within a public hospital district in Skagit County and have federal critical access designation. The hospital qualifies despite the existing freeze on adding hospitals to this payment program. Payments are based on allowable costs incurred during the year, unless the hospital joins the state's alternative-payment pilot. The change pays the hospital, not households.
