Court of appeals bailiffs can conduct threat assessments for judges and court staff. The court must make sure any bailiff doing this work is qualified by training and experience. If a threat is found to be real, the bailiff must refer it to local police. Local police can report back on what they did or plan to do.
Court of appeals bailiffs can get criminal history records that include nonconviction data, but only to investigate threats against judges or staff. Supreme court bailiffs can get similar records for their authorized investigations. Using or sharing this data for any other purpose is not allowed.
