Clear rules on same-election dates

Beginning March 17, 2026, an election means any general, primary, or special election. Two elections are the same election if they share the same date, no matter the races or the dates ballots are mailed or returned. A special election held the same day as a primary or general is not the same election. If you are eligible, you may vote in both elections that day.

Felony and civil penalties for double voting

Beginning March 17, 2026, it is a class C felony to intentionally vote or attempt to vote more than once in the same election. It is also a felony to intentionally vote or attempt to vote in Washington and another state in the same election. If the conduct is reckless or negligent, it is a class 1 civil infraction. These rules apply to any person.
