Beginning June 11, 2026, Washington excludes some vehicles from its electric-assisted bicycle category. Vehicles do not qualify if their electric motor alone can take them above 20 miles per hour. Vehicles also do not qualify if their maker or seller designed, made, or intended them to be easily changed beyond e-bike limits. This includes changes through a switch, software setting, app, or other means. This rule does not specify what separate rules apply to excluded vehicles or impose new fees.
