Beginning June 11, 2026, Washington’s Employment Security Department must warn people applying for unemployment benefits because of a strike at their former employer’s workplace. The warning explains possible repayment if they later receive back pay. If that employer pays back wages for weeks covered by unemployment benefits, the department must assess the corresponding benefits for repayment. Notice can come through an online acknowledgment box, a letter, or another reasonable method; notice alone does not require repayment. These strike-related rules expire December 31, 2035. Any part conflicting with federal funding or unemployment tax-credit requirements does not apply to the extent of that conflict. The rest remains in effect, and agency rules must meet those federal requirements.
