Fewer insurance barriers for HIV medicines

The law applies to covered Washington health plans issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2027, including state employee plans. These plans must cover all FDA-approved HIV antiviral drugs without requiring advance approval, trying another drug first, or other treatment-use controls. When the FDA approves equivalent HIV prevention or treatment products, only one equivalent version must be covered without those barriers. The law does not set limits on copays or deductibles.
