Beginning June 11, 2026, Washington’s labor department must use evidence-based rules to certify asbestos workers and supervisors. Rules must follow the best available evidence, established best practices, and nationally recognized industry standards. They must place no more burden on applicants than needed to address health and safety hazards. The department’s rules are no longer limited to those required to meet federal standards.
