Beginning May 20, 2026, a county sheriff receives a $15,000 commission each year after collecting at least 85% of all real and personal property taxes. The county commission decides if the 85% target is met. The $15,000 comes from the tax funds collected and is added to the sheriff’s regular pay. It is treated as part of the sheriff’s annual budgeted compensation.
