Stay 30 feet from first responders

Beginning June 12, 2026, you must keep at least 30 feet from a first responder after they tell you to stay back. The rule applies when they are lawfully doing their job. If you knowingly ignore the warning and approach or stay within 30 feet in a way that interferes with their work or threatens them with harm, you commit a misdemeanor. The court can fine you $50 to $500, jail you for up to one year, or both. First responders include police, probation officers, firefighters, and emergency responders.
