West Virginia teachers gain protected preparation time

West Virginia teachers cannot be required to use either school preparation day except to prepare for opening or closing school. Teachers can choose to use those days for activities allowed under the county-designated-day rule. Each county calendar must also include two Leave Teachers Alone days before the instructional term begins. Classroom teachers decide which activities to do on those days, and the activities must improve instruction. The county board’s remaining designated days are reduced to two.
