The state sends a reminder at least 120 days before your ID card expires. It goes to your last known postal address, email, or other electronic contact on file. The notice states that in-person voters must show acceptable ID and that eligible facility residents may renew by mail. This notice rule starts July 1, 2026.
The Department of Transportation must write rules to run the mail renewal process for facility residents. Section 1, which contains the mail-renewal rules and limits, takes effect July 1, 2026. The rest of the law is already in effect.
Beginning July 1, 2026, full-time residents of nursing care or assisted living facilities can renew a Wyoming ID by mail. You must send the application, pay the fee, and include a notarized attestation from the facility administrator or manager. Send documents to verify any material changes to information on your current card. Limits apply: you can use mail renewal no more than two times in 16 years, unless your last WYDOT photo is 16 years old or newer on your renewal date. You cannot use mail renewal if you need to change personal identifying information; that change must be done in person.
