Wyoming funds study with $8 million
The state provides $8 million from the Strategic Investments and Projects Account to the Office of State Lands and Investments to run the study, including hiring a consultant. Money is available from July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2030, and unused funds revert on June 30, 2030. The money cannot be used for other purposes and is not added to the next standard budget. If that account is repealed on or before July 1, 2026, the $8 million comes from the General Fund instead.
Statewide wastewater and stormwater study required
The Department of Environmental Quality must study public wastewater and stormwater systems across Wyoming. It works with the Office of State Lands and Investments and the Wyoming Water Development Office. Cities, towns, special districts, and counties must provide requested data to the department or its designee. DEQ must report the study’s status to the Select Water Committee by November 1 each year from 2026 through 2030. These requirements begin July 1, 2026.
Water infrastructure data public, with safeguards
Wyoming owns all data created by the study, including GIS maps and metadata. Any contracts must deliver full datasets in nonproprietary or widely used formats with bulk export. DEQ must post the datasets on an official state data portal for public download. Confidential or privileged information remains protected by law. These rules start July 1, 2026.
