Maryland Administrative Code

.01 Scope. These regulations govern all licensed dentists, licensed dental hygienists, dental assistants, dental students, dental hygiene students, and dental assistant students.

.02 “Protection” Defined. For purposes of these regulations, “protection” means the lead shielding of 0.25 millimeter lead equivalence or greater.

.02-1 Incorporation by Reference. Dental X-Ray Protection, NCRP Report No. 35 (National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements, Issued March 9, 1970), is incorporated by reference.

.03 Circumstances for Protection. Protection shall be placed over the patient in accordance with Dental X-Ray Protection, NCRP Report No. 35.

.04 Exceptions. Protection is not required if its use would interfere with the diagnostic quality of the resultant radiographs.

.05 Penalties for Violation. A violation of these regulations during the exposure of dental radiographs constitutes unprofessional conduct.

.06 Roster of Specialists. The Board shall maintain a roster of all licensed dentists identified as specialists in each of the specialties recognized by the Board.

.07 List of Approved Programs. The Board shall maintain a list of all specialty training programs it approves. The list shall be open to the public during the normal business hours of the Board.
