  • Did you know2024

Deepak Nitrite holds ~80% of India's sodium nitrite market — making it a de facto monopoly supplier for India's food-grade curing agent and simultaneously for pharmaceutical sodium nitrite (cyanide antidote) and agricultural chemical intermediates (sodium nitrite is used in azo dye synthesis, which feeds India's large textile industry). A single Gujarat-based Indian chemical company controls the majority of supply for a substance that prevents botulism in India's processed meat industry, treats cyanide poisoning in India's hospitals, and intermediates the colors in India's textile sector — across food, pharma, and industrial applications from one Nandesari facility.

  • Capacity2023

Deepak Nitrite's nitrotoluene production supplies pharmaceutical-grade intermediates for paracetamol (acetaminophen) synthesis via the para-nitrotoluene → para-aminophenol (PAP) → acetaminophen route. India is the world's largest manufacturer of paracetamol API — nearly all global paracetamol traces to India's chemical industry, which depends on domestic nitrotoluene producers including Deepak. A sodium nitrite and specialty chemicals company is thus embedded in the supply chain for one of the world's most widely consumed pharmaceuticals (paracetamol/Tylenol/Panadol), connecting it to both global food supply chains (via sodium nitrite) and global pharmaceutical supply chains (via nitrotoluenes).

  • Origin2023

Deepak Nitrite was founded in 1970 by the Mehta family in Vadodara, Gujarat — India's chemical heartland — as a sodium nitrite manufacturer. Over 50 years, it expanded into nitrotoluenes, specialty chemicals, and then made a transformative entry into phenol manufacturing with Deepak Phenolics (Dahej, Gujarat plant commissioned 2019) — India's first and largest phenol producer. The Dahej plant is integrated with a cumene supply chain and includes acetone hydrogenation to IPA, making Deepak a fully integrated phenol-acetone-IPA value chain company. A sodium nitrite company became India's top phenol and IPA producer in a single diversification move.
