Granges AB traces its name to Grängesberg, Sweden, where one of Sweden's largest iron ore deposits was mined from the 1870s through the 1970s. The Grängesberg mine was a cornerstone of Swedish industrial development. When the mine closed in 1989, the Gränges company reinvented itself entirely as an aluminum rolling specialist — pivoting from iron ore extraction to aluminum flat-rolled products manufacturing. By the 2010s, Gränges (now spelled "Granges") was a global specialty aluminum company with no remaining connection to iron ore. The company went public on the Stockholm Stock Exchange in 2014 as a pure-play aluminum rolling business. The transformation from iron ore mining to precision aluminum rolling — driven by necessity when the mine depleted — is one of Sweden's more successful industrial reinventions: the company that fed Sweden's steel industry now supplies the aluminum that cools EV batteries.
