Shanghai Electric is one of China's three dominant heavy power equipment manufacturers (alongside Dongfang Electric and Harbin Electric), providing equipment to Chinese and international power plants. A subsidiary of a turbine-and-generator SOE makes HVAC air conditioning compressors supplied to Carrier, Daikin, and other Western brands. The compressor business is not obviously related to power generation — the connection is rotary machinery engineering and precision manufacturing for hermetically sealed pressure systems.
