Natural Soda LLC mines trona (sodium sesquicarbonate mineral) from the Piceance Creek Basin near Rifle, Colorado -- one of the world's few locations with high-quality trona deposits outside Wyoming's Green River Basin. Trona-derived sodium bicarbonate is chemically purer and cheaper than synthetically produced bicarbonate (which was the historical method pioneered by Solvay in 1863), because the mineral itself requires only dissolution, filtration, and recrystallization rather than full chemical synthesis. Natural Soda's pharmaceutical-grade sodium bicarbonate meets the same USP specifications as the sodium bicarbonate used to treat cardiac arrest (administered IV as a buffer), mixed into hemodialysis fluid for kidney patients, and included as a tablet excipient in hundreds of drugs -- the same molecule as the Arm & Hammer baking soda in most American kitchens, processed to 99.9%+ purity in an FDA-registered Colorado facility from rock mined underground in the Piceance Basin.
